Northwood Carnival Glass Nippon Ruffled Bowl, Green, Basketweave Back
Pretty bowl with a sawtooth edge and eight ruffles. The interior of the piece is covered in graduated arches. The central design features a chrysanthemum flower enclosed by concentric rings, based on the imperial crest of the Empress of Japan. The back has a basketweave design. Green base glass with lovely multicolor iridescence, lots of purples, teals and golds. Classic era carnival glass, produced about 1911-1912. Less common pattern.
Condition:  Small flake to underside of one rim tooth. A couple of tiny nicks on the inside of the bowl and some minor wear here and there.
Marks:  Circle N mark.
Dimensions:  9" wide, 3" high.
Color Note: Some pictures are taken with a black background to highlight how the color of the iridescence of carnival glass can change in appearance depending on background color. Both the white and black background photos were taken under the same lighting, only the background color was changed. How the iridescence will look in your home will depend on your unique background colors and lighting conditions.
